Good early season conditions for Bewl Water
Current conditions suit Bewl Water well for early season tactics. The ripple should help fish move and feed more confidently.
The largest reservoir in south-east England (770 acres). Its complex, tree-lined shape provides shelter that bigger exposed waters lack. Strong competition venue. The evening sedge fishing in the arms during July and August is exceptional. Bank fishing is good but boat access opens up the best water.
Conditions
Boat drift recommended
A gentle ripple is ideal for drifting — broadside drift covering the wind lanes should be productive.
Approach
Start with Buzzers (12-14) on a slow figure-of-eight or hang under indicator. If that does not produce, switch depth or speed before changing the pattern entirely.
Recommended flies
Active food signals
What to watch
The best window in early season is often late morning through the afternoon as the water warms.
